At just under 6,000 metres to the summit, climbing Kilimanjaro is an arduous trek up the highest volcano in the eastern hemisphere and the highest free-standing mountain in the world.
Originally planned a number of years ago but scuppered due to Covid, Andrew and Callum have taken on this challenge as a way of raising funds for two charities very close to their hearts and those of the Pure team – Breast Cancer Now and Sydenham’s Chorea Association.
Having climbed over 40 Munros as part of their long-term training for Kilimanjaro, Andrew and Callum are no strangers to climbing high and in often difficult conditions. Completing the Isle of Skye Challenge a couple of years ago saw them climb and traverse the peaks of one of the UK’s most challenging mountain ranges.
Andrew has also previously successfully completed the 3 Peaks Challenge, climbing the highest mountain in Scotland, England and Wales in a mere 24 hours.
Whilst all this climbing has been fantastic training for the guys, they are under no illusions that Kilimanjaro is a completely different animal and as well as the physical and mental monotony of climbing day after day after day, Andrew and Callum will be faced with the prospect of having to deal with altitude sickness and all the challenges that brings when trying to get to the summit in a given time frame.
Pure Lubrication are hugely passionate about fund raising for charity and never before has the commitment to this been more evident as it is with Andrew and Callum’s up-coming trek.
We wish them both all the very best of luck with this challenge and have no doubt that they will smash it and hopefully at the same time actually enjoy what is lined up to be a life changing experience.
